Quick Decorating Tips for Thanksgiving

Psst...Thanksgiving's coming! Don't panic yet, you've got plenty of time. If you are looking around at your house, wondering how to create Thanksgiving - you are not alone in this feeling. Many of us are overworked and simply don't have the time to create a decorator style home for the Thanksgiving holiday. Fortunately there are some quick decorating tips that will make your home warm and welcoming for Thanksgiving.

Begin by clearing the clutter. Even if it is just scooping things up and putting them into the closet or into dresser drawers, that's okay. Guests will notice clutter in rooms and a clean room is far more welcoming for the holidays. Cleaning the clutter takes far less time than you'd think.

Try scented candles for affordable elegance. The key to using scented candles is to not overdo them. Try two or three of them in the room at a maximum and keep the scents complimentary. Pumpkin spice is an ideal scent for Thanksgiving. There are a number of other fall type of scents you may find especially appealing. Another excellent option if you have small children or super active pets are flame free candles. You blow on them to light them and blow on them to turn them off. Candlelight creates a warm glow that makes everyone look attractive.

Add fall gourds and mini pumpkins to the room for a great Thanksgiving look. This is actually a very inexpensive way to decorate. The biggest challenge is that some people will buy them too early and they go soft and gushy inside - and you can't use them. Keep them outside until a day or so before Thanksgiving. Then add them to your Thanksgiving table or the fireplace mantle.

Dishes and serving plates don't have to match to work at your Thanksgiving table. They do however have to be suitable for fall. Try fall colors or neutral colors like white, ivory, beige or bone. Adding heirloom dinner dishes to your Thanksgiving table is a special touch as this holiday is often about gathering family and this honors the older generations.
