A Fall Feast: Great Ideas for Entertaining at Home

In certain parts of the United States, the early signs of fall are already starting to appear. As children head back to school and the weather begins to change, more families begin to think about fall entertaining in their homes designed with A frame home plans.

A home designed with bungalow craftsman house plans provides the perfect backdrop for entertaining this fall. One delicious and easy cool weather dish is a classic pot roast. The great thing about pot roast is that virtually all of the prep work can be done ahead of time. Throw your favorite fall vegetables-carrots, onions, potatoes, celery-into a crock pot in the morning with your meat, broth and a little garlic and your will have a hearty and healthy dinner for you and your guests. Another great thing about pot roast is there are almost always leftovers.

Beef tenderloin with a creamy blue cheese sauce is a solid main course selection for your next dinner party hosted in your home built with a contemporary home plan. After removing the majority of the fat from the tenderloin, place it in a large plastic bag. Add olive oil, soy sauce, kosher salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar and fresh rosemary to the bag and refrigerate overnight. About an hour before your guests arrive either bake or grill to your liking. A simple blue cheese sauce can be made with heavy cream and fresh blue cheese on the stove. Check through your favorite cookbooks, as there are many ways to prepare this sauce. Again, by planning ahead and completing most of the prep work ahead of time, you will have more time to take in the fall colors and visit with your dinner guests.

Another way to maximize fall entertaining is to bring the outdoors into your home. Dried and fresh flowers, pinecones and leaves are a great way to decorate your table for pennies. These items can be stacked and layered in vases, or simply patterned down the table. If you are looking for a way to give your table a fall makeover, buying new fall-colored napkins is an excellent way to makeover your table without buying an entire new set of dishes.

When preparing your fall menu, remember to try your best to eat what is in season. Fall orchard apples make a great base for desserts from pies to cakes. You can also bake the apples and then serve them with vanilla ice cream or fresh cream. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar on top and you are ready serve.
