Planning a Graduation Party

Thinking of organizing a party for a graduation party in the family is really hard. Just thinking about the ways you can make everyone happy, especially the graduate is really hard to do especially now that time is really tough and prices everywhere are so high. There are possible questions running through your mind about various details concerning this party.

Your first thing to consider is the food selection, because it usually comprises about 60% of the budget. Often a simple buffet menu is best. Finger food is usually preferred. You can also buy a cheap chocolate fountain to dress up your buffet table. Have marshmallows, pretzels and strawberries available for dipping.

Everything about graduation party should be co-related with the graduation event itself. The theme should also be about graduation and everyone needs to wear graduation gowns as well. One very popular theme is the Casino Party. It's very interactive and allows the graduates to win prizes.

Aside from the commencement, organizing the party can be really exhausting and stressful so let an important person handle this on your behalf. It may be your mom, sister or any other family members. With a graduation theme, everything needs to be organized, the cake, the streamers and more.

You can order a custom cake at a local bakery or ice cream shop. They typically will have molds and cake toppers with the graduation theme.

You can easily arrange for this party using these ideas:

1. Make a guest list, this way, you will be able to make graduation gowns request in agreement with those interested to attend the party. Often it's best to require a RSVP, so you can plan accordingly. It will also save you from overspending.

2. In creating a food list, you should include in the foodstuff plan and ribbons together with the graduation gowns enhanced and curved veggies. You can also include pastries in the dessert. Parties can be easily molded with graduation gowns meant once you are ready to start. You can discuss this with the whole family so you can easily decide what foods to serve.

3. You can make several graduation gown placard as well. These things can be easily done using your computer.

4. Keepsakes are a nice addition to a graduation party. You can have a caricature artist draw each attendees picture, and they'll be able to take it home and frame it. Another idea is a party video. Simply record your party and then email it out to all the guests. You might even have someone with technical skills do the editing to make it more professional.

5. Don't forget the servers should also wear graduation gowns. If you will cook and be the server of the instance, you can easily do it. If you will hire a caterer, let them know in move forward so they can prepare.

Wine Tasting Party Ideas

A wine tasting party is a great way to bring together friends, family and new acquaintances in a relaxed environment where people may share their love and knowledge of wine. What prevents many people from actually hosting a wine and cheese type party is that they think they have to be sommeliers to do it. But you don't need to know a lot about wine to throw a successful party. Here are a few wine tasting party ideas to get you ready to host your own wine tasting party.

How to start?

To begin with, you need to decide what type of wine tasting party you want to throw. You can either host a vertical or horizontal price point party or a wine and cheese pairing party. It all depends on your budget and the number of guests you intend to invite. Most new party host decide on a wine and cheese pairing party because they are often less serious affairs than the straight wine tasting parties.

Next, you will want to send out invitations at least a couple of weeks in advance. Like any party, it is best to ask your guests to RSVP so that you know exactly how many bottles of wine you will need.

Wine Tasting Game

One of the easiest best wine tasting party ideas is to have a simple, fun wine tasting game. Purchase or design your own tasting cards that record the type of wine, the vineyard, and the year it was produced. Make sure that each person has a card on which they can record the wine's appearance, taste, aroma, and overall score.

Less experienced wine tasters should probably only rate which wines they liked best and which wines that did not care for. Then they can listen and learn from the other guests and perhaps participate in more involved wine tasting and scoring at the next party.

If, however, you have an experienced group of wine tasters, you might decide to make things more challenging and insist on a blind tasting. In this instance, you still give your guest their tasting cards, but your pour all of the wines without revealing the label (simply place bottles in brown paper bags).

The goal of the wine tasting game is to correctly identify the wines based on the descriptions on the labels. The person who is able to identify the most wines wins a prize-often a fine bottle of wine.

Decorations and Activities

A great thing about this type of event is that does not require you to go all out and purchase anything you might not already have around the house. All you will need is a good-sized table and a white tablecloth on which to place all of the wines. You may also choose to light a few unscented candles to add to the mood.

As for activities, it is often a good idea to break the ice and get the evening started with a few games of wine trivia. You may award the winner of each game a small prize or party favor, like an inexpensive bottle of wine or a corkscrew (gag gift).

What you will need:

Four to six bottles of wine
Some light appetizers, such as cheese and crackers
A few loaves of French or Italian bread
A pitcher of water for cleaning palates between tastings
A bucket or dumper for guests to spit wine into
Glasses
Grading Cards
Pens and pencils

Spicing Up Old Games With Nerf Guns

The limitless fun that can be had with good old Nerf guns should never be underestimated. Many children receive these tows as presents and charge through the house for the first few days firing them off happily. After a while however the get tossed aside, their potential lost. These toys are safe for inside use and can be used in so many ways to spice up high energy, children's games.

Kids have tons of imagination, they are just required to use so little of it, given the types of activities often marketed for them. Nerf guns are great alternatives to house spent in front of the television or the game system. They make perfect entertainment for days when the weather is less than stellar.

When you want your kids to stay active a great game to reinvent is the game of War. Have the kids divide themselves into two teams. One times hides and the other team counts to thirty to give everyone a chance to get in place.

Once thirty is reached the hunt is on. Team one slowly hunts team two down and picks them off with their artillery. If you have neon guns and a black light this game can be taken to a new level. Playing in total darkness or adding flashlights will kick the excitement up a notch.

At teen and pre-teen birthday parties this game can be played outside in the yard. Twilight or absolute darkness makes for hours of fun, fun, fun. Kids can tote flashlights or you can string Christmas lights in the yard for a little safety. This is way less expensive than paying for a laser tag or paint ball party. The impact of Nerf guns is also far more preferable to paint guns as well.

Having Fun With Nerf Guns

You should never underestimate the fun that can be had with Nerf guns. Children often get these toys, fire them off a few times and then lose contact with imagination. There are a multitude of ways to spice up the play and keep your little ones entertained for hours on end.

Sometimes without a little encouragement kids fail to use the imagination necessary to keep the fun going all day long. Nerf toys are a safe and easy way to keep your little ones active and out from in front of the television or games system on cold and rainy days. They are also phenomenal for taking along to the park.

For a high energy, rainy day activity, a super popular game to play is a variation of War. With this game a group of children divides up into two teams. One person can count to thirty while the first team hides.

When thirty is reached the second team must begin to hunt out member of the first. Great additions to this game, especially when Nerf guns are in neon colors is to use a black light, total darkness or flashlights. Kids will have fun for hours on end.

This game can also be played by teens and pre-teens in the back and front yard at night. Flashlights are of course necessary, but this is an awesome way to spice up a birthday party. It also costs way less than laser tag and paint ball. While paint ball can be a bit harsh for more sensitive children, the soft foam impact of a Nerf gun is typically fine for kids of almost any age.

Rental Fences Make Events Safer For Attendees

Most every event you have been to have used some kind of rental fencing. This is done in order to make sure everything is kept safe. If you have ever been to an event where they did not use rental fences, you are sure to have noticed the problems which the venue encountered. People were allowed to walk wherever they wanted to and there were probably fights which broke out as a result of not investing correctly in the crowd control which rental fences can offer. This is why it is always important to use rental fences at any event.

Bike races are becoming more and more popular in Atlanta. What many of those do not realize is just how dangerous it is if one of the cyclist may lose control of their bicycle. This can happen because they are on a turn, or simply because they were bumped by another racer on the course. If you are to have any hope of keeping the crowd safe, it is necessary to install rental fencing which will keep the crowd at a proper distance away from the action. This will create the right amount of room to create safety, but it will also give the racers the room to perform better. This makes the event more enjoyable to be at.

Lines are something which no one likes to stand in. The longer the line, the more antsy people tend to get. This is why it is important to use rental fences when setting up the lines in which people will have to stand in to get something like tickets to an event. The fences will create a clear division over who is and who is not in line. Without the fencing, people might be tempted to cut in line and this can lead to arguments and even outright fights. Creating lines can also help to best utilize a space to contain more people.

Another way in which you can use rental fences to protect attendees at an event is to use fencing for such things as a rodeo. There is no reason for the crowd to get involved in the action. The right fencing will help to keep the animals contained within an area. Those sitting outside of the fencing will be able to enjoy the show without having to worry about any of the animals getting loose in the stands.

No matter how you are using rental fences at an event, you are sure to create a safer environment for all. They can be used in crowd control, security checkpoints and in containing certain elements. The right fences will send a clear message they are not to be crossed unless you have the right clearance. The great thing about fences is they create an unmistakable line which you will be able to see if someone has crossed it. This helps to immediately stop someone before anything bad happens to them. It will also protect your event from a law suit.

Spring Must-Haves - Beverage Dispensers and More

As flowers bloom, sunshine pours in through the windows, and the weather outside becomes suitable for outdoor entertaining, spring necessitates a whole new set of items for your home! Your spring checklist should contain a wide variety of goods, including beverage dispensers for cool lemonade, garden-style tabletop accessories, and durable barware for patio cocktails.

Beverage Dispensers

Carrying a pitcher of lemonade, chilled water, or iced tea outside on a sunny day is just asking for trouble. Because of the open top, your beverage probably won't stay cold in a pitcher - or even clean. For this reason, spring hostesses rely on beverage dispensers. Some of the most popular beverage dispensers contain ice inserts, allowing the ice to cool your beverage without diluting the flavor when it melts. These are great for those warm afternoons when you can feel summer knocking at the door. Metal beverage dispensers are also very stylish, as these opaque items are sometimes decorated with floral designs in bright spring colors - ideal for garden parties. For something a little more whimsical, you'll love a beehive beverage dispenser. Shaped exactly like it sounds, this piece makes an excellent conversation starter.

Tabletop Accessories

For meals both inside and out, tabletop accessories can jazz up any occasion. These pieces can be functional, such as vases, platters, or bowls, or else strictly ornamental - it's up to you. If you can't decide between two pieces, just get them both! (Worst case scenario, you can give one away as a hostess gift.) We've been talking about bright colors, but spring isn't all about whimsy. There's also that mysterious, rugged look - those tabletop accessories that remind you of The Secret Garden. For these pieces, the Pompeii series by Arte Italica can't be beat. Crafted in handmade ceramic, the Pompeii collection includes bowls, planters, platters, vases, and pitchers, all available in rustic shades of coral, mustard, turquoise, and ivory. Best of all, these pieces are embellished by hand with one-of-a-kind paint drips, intentional distressing, and faux cracks to provide an authentic aged feel.

Barware

Outdoor barware is tricky. You want your stemware and bar glasses to look elegant as ever, but hopefully provide an added touch of durability, as patios and decks are not very kind to falling glasses. Fortunately, the Verona series by Arte Italica features crisp, beautifully shaped glass bowls supported by sturdy pewter stems. This collection includes a variety of items, including champagne flutes, red and white wine glasses (also suitable for water), martini glasses, decanters, and pitchers. For bar glasses, the Coccodrillo collection - also by Arte Italica - includes pewter as well, this time accented with intriguing crocodile designs. Stock up on double old fashioned glasses or highball glasses, then choose accessory items such as bottle openers, ice buckets and tongs, and coasters. This Arte Italica collection also offers indoor items - from soap dispensers to picture frames - so you can add Coccodrillo items throughout your home if you find that you enjoy the style.

There are endless ideas out there that can be used to make family nights loads of fun and that will get everyone excited. Plan the Perfect Summer Shower

April isn't the only month that will be full of showers this year! As the weather heats up, so will your social life. Couples are always getting married and having babies, and chances are you or at least one of your friends or family members will be throwing a summer shower. To complete the theme, be sure to include these necessities for a bridal/wedding, couples, or baby shower.

Decorations:
The two most popular themes for summer parties are beach and luau. Go crazy with flip flops, sea shells, and sand, or pull out the grass skirts, tiki torches, and leis. Take a look at the location where you will be hosting your event, and begin planning from there. If it's a backyard barbeque, you can decorate with hanging lanterns, twinkle lights for an evening party, and bright outdoor linens and flatware. If your event will be indoors, focus your decorations on flowers (real or fake) and themed party favors. They look great on the table and on your guests!

Invitations:
A wide variety of invitations are available for all occasions. There are endless beach, tropical, and luau themed options, as well as a variety of couples and baby shower options. Spend some time browsing, because there is a good chance you will find an invitation for your specific event with your specific theme! Most invitations are available blank or personalized, so whether you prefer to do it yourself or to delegate the task to someone else you will be covered.

Gifts:
Gifts for a summer shower can be practical and fun at the same time. Pregnant moms-to-be will love you for the light summer dresses and coordinating pair of comfy flip flops you give them. Help that special woman stay cool and comfortable during the hottest and most uncomfortable months of her pregnancy. Cute bikinis and sandals are a fun way to shower a bride-to-be. Engaged couples will also love new home necessities for the outdoors. Instead of the traditional linens and kitchenware, switch it up and provide trendy picnic flatware, backyard linens, fixin's for the grill, and outdoor decorations. Don't forget containers for sun tea and margaritas by the pool!

Food & Beverages:
Plan your menu first and foremost around the couple you are showering. Whether they love a pig roast, barbeque, or fish fry, plan to cook up the dishes they enjoy most on a hot summer day. Include frozen drinks to keep everyone cool, and plenty of ice in the coolers. For baby showers, create some unique tropical or fruity non-alcoholic drinks by taking a beloved classic and adding a twist. (Add some pomegranate juice to your lemonade or give your virgin pina coladas a minty coconut twist!) Also, don't forget to give your vegetarian and vegan friends plenty of options! A cool platter of fresh veggies will please everyone, and adding veggie burgers, roasted vegetables, and various salads (pasta, fruit, etc.) to your menu will be something all your guests will thoroughly enjoy.

Party Favors:
Send each guests away with a little something to thank them for making your favorite friends' showers perfect. Cute themed wine stoppers, candles, mini paper lanterns, and paper fans all make cute additions to your tables and will impress your guests. Send each guest away with a mini pail and shovel or hollowed coconut shell filled with simple goodies, seashells, individual sunscreen bottles, and a small slice of summer fun.

Games:
Each shower is different, and each honoree will have a different idea of what kind of games they want to play at their shower. Some will be all about traditional wedding or baby shower games, while others might want a more relaxed and social environment. When picking out activities for your shower, think about the number of guests you will be having and the amount of supplies you will need. If you pick a game that requires writing or drawing, be sure you have enough markers to go around! Remember, if you're having a diverse crowd that won't really know the other guests, conversation games double as a great way to break the ice!

Help:
Showers are a great way to start a couple off right with necessities for their life together or the new life they are bringing into the world. However, the host(ess) is often the one who needs the most help in making sure everything goes off smoothly. Don't forget to offer an extra hand in cleaning up, organizing, or making sure everyone's drink is topped off. You don't have to be the one putting on the party to be certain that it goes smoothly. Pitch in however you can, because even the smallest job can turn out to be a huge help!

Family Fun Time Activities

Bored? Not sure what to do? Looking for something fun to do, but not sure what? Do you have brothers or sisters bugging you? Instead of being bugged, why not do some fun family activities? There are plenty of things that can be done, even around the house to get you laughing and make you forget your boredom. Take a spin at a few of these and see how you feel afterward.

Concert In The Living Room:

Get your parents up and moving to your songs! Make them sing all the songs that they never want to hear and get everyone dancing and singing along. Use your own CD's or if you have a music channel on your TV, tune it in and get moving. But remember, if your parents have to sing to your songs, you have to sing to theirs also! Also consider flipping through the music channels and randomly picking songs to sing to. Make each person in the family play a different instrument or be a backup dancer. Why not add costumes while your at it too? Pick clothes to match the singers and make your parents dress as your favorite musician, no matter who it is.

Family Impersonations:

Do your siblings or parents drive you crazy sometimes? Do you wish they could see what you see? Gather the family together to do impersonations of each other. Use their funniest moments to create the scene. Are there things your brothers or sisters are always saying? Does your mom always repeat the same phrase? Do your best silly impersonations of each other. They will be doing impersonations of you too, so be careful what you say!

Create A Story Together:

Don't tell just any story, make a story any way you want. One person begins the story and then stops and passes it on to the next person and so on with everyone in the family. Pick a theme to use or choose which words always have to be used in the story. Make everyone tell a portion of the story to see what happens. If you have little brothers or sisters, get them involved too and see what crazy tales they have to say.

Treasure Hunt Picnic Basket Prize For Kids

Are you forever looking for things for your kids to do during summer break? Summer is better with a picnic complete with a picnic basket. So I bought a basket which I planned to give this as a prize or treasure, I should say, for my kids one day filled with breakfast munchies & goodies they like.

Then I made a treasure hunt through my house and property. I started by making foot prints out of colored paper on the floor, from their bedroom doors, one morning before they woke up. These prints led them to the first clue and started a fun day, they had to follow the steps to the first clue and then on to the next. They found instructions throughout the house and property leading to the next clue. They knew there was a prize at the end of the hunt and were so excited to keep going to find all the clues. I had put the prize picnic basket up in their tree house and in the end the clues led them to the house.

I think this summer I will plan another surprise for the kids again. I hope to come up with another good idea. Maybe a picnic backpack might be the prize or treasure this time. I hope this gives parents an idea for them to do for their kids this summer. With finances tight in this recovering economy, this was inexpensive way to create a fun day. Buy a picnic basket or back pack, invite your kids friends over, and have a great summer.

How to Get Rid of Uninvited Summer Guests

There are a number of ways to become instantly popular with family, friends, and acquaintances. One is to write a best seller; another to win Megabucks; and the third (and often the most effective) is to purchase a summer home.

Along with closing on such a purchase, one quickly finds he hasn't only obtained property, but hordes of unexpected (and often unwelcome) visitors. At one time, while living in Massachusetts, my parents owned a summer camp in Maine. It was before the Maine turnpike, and a six hour drive was required to reach their cabin on a lake. One Sunday afternoon, a co-worker of my father's from Boston, with a wife and two kids in tow, showed up on their doorstep in Maine and explained, "they were just out for a ride and thought they would drop in." (He'd probably be the kind to drive to the North Pole for a Polar Bear)

Needless to say, there was much scurrying about, not only to feed, but to house the freeloading foursome because they had purposely arrived at the dinner hour, and too late to complete the ride home the same day.

Friends of ours also purchased a lovely summer home ten miles from their residence, but gullibility wasn't part of the sales contract. Envisioning summers of uninterrupted weekends, they came up with a plan to thwart those visiting vultures, who always arrive in late afternoon just in time for dinner...or so they thought. Dinnertime comes and goes in my friends' camp without one opening of a refrigerator or the whir of a can opener! Food not only isn't served, it isn't even mentioned. Finally at 9:00 p.m. dinner is served, but by that time the ravenous company has hightailed it to the nearest fast food restaurant, much to my friends' delight. Needless to say, they don't get many repeaters!

Spicing Up Chess - Uppercuts, Giant Pieces and the Turk

When you think of a chess match you probably imagine two people locked in concentration, silently staring at a chess board. But there are some interesting historical chess facts that challenge that image. Consider some of the ways people have tried to spice up the game of the years.

Having real people play the roles of chess pieces on a giant chess board is an idea that has been around at least since 1891, when the Club of Living Chess formed in Dublin, Ireland. Since 1923, a game with human chess pieces takes place in Marostica, Italy every two years to celebrate a legendary 15th century game between two rival suitors. Nowadays, human chess matches are often staged at Renaissance Fairs, sometimes as Combat Chess featuring choreographed stage combat.

Combat chess has been taken to a new level with the recent development of Chess Boxing. Originally imagined by Serbian graphic novelist Enki Bilal in 1992, Chess Boxing became a reality in 2001, when Dutch artist Iepe Rubingh designed a match format alternating between rounds of boxing and chess in which contestants can win either by checkmate or knockout. It has since grown into a seriously competitive sport complete with a World Chess Boxing Organization, coherent rules, and an annual world championship.

There has also been a long tradition of designing nonhuman chess champions. In 1770, a Hungarian inventor named Wolfgang von Kempelen built a life-sized, mechanical chess player known as "The Turk" that moved chess pieces with a mechanical hand and even made certain facial expressions. "The Turk" played well-known chess players of its time, including Benjamin Franklin and Napoleon Bonaparte, and often won. This tradition carried on with a number of chess playing computers in the last several decades including Deep Thought and Deep Blue, which actually took one game from world champion Garry Kasparov in 1996, before Kasparov rallied back to win the match. A year later, an upgraded computer, known as "Deeper Blue, " defeated Kasparov in a rematch, prompting the champion to accused the computer's manufacturers, IBM, of cheating.

Look Like a Party Giving Genius - 4 Ways to Ensure Your Guests Will Feel Lucky to Be at Your Party

How do legendary party-givers manage to create a party that feels so special that all the guests are thankful they got to be there? The golden element that will lift your party out of the ordinary is a properly thought-out guest list.

Follow the lead of those who know how to casually toss off a brilliant affair. Four simple, but strikingly powerful, techniques:

1.) If you want your party to sparkle, you need to create a showcase that will encourage your guests to shine. To build the right atmosphere, start by inviting at least a couple of friends who are expressive talkers, accomplished communicators, or good laughter. Passion and experience go a long way here. These are the people that are compulsive about helping to get any party rolling.

You can count on these guests, your pros, to make the party go, and then all your other great guests will have a framework they can "bounce off of", and to which they can add their own stories, humor, and personalities.

2.) Make out a guest list where some of the company know each other very well, so that there will be easy and free conversation that the new blood, the newcomers, can bring their own spark to. Relatives, with their insouciance and boldness, can be very good for filling in here.

3.) If you want a peaceful-feeling get-together (think sewing-bee type parties), go for a guest list where the people are tied together by an interest in common.

You can gather cooking enthusiasts in your kitchen to learn to cook a special dish--or a group that likes old movies would love to receive an invitation to get comfortable to watch a rented classic.

4.) And let your guests know how lucky you feel that they are at your party! Truly appreciate their presence, their personas, and their taking part. The sincere love you give out will lift and animate your guests.

Realize that dazzling parties are mainly about bringing out the spirits, energy, and vital spark of the people who have gathered together. Then--cheers!--your friends will stand and watch in admiration as you almost effortlessly make happen impressive events.

How to Build a Game Room That Fits Your Tastes

You always wanted to have a cool game room in your home where you could go, have some fun, and just let loose. The problem is that you are quite sure how to make it happen. You have some ideas in your head about what you would like to do, but aren't all that certain about how to pull it together.

Don't worry. Putting a game room together is really not all that difficult. You just need to do a little planning and in a matter of a day or two, or a little longer if you like to take things slow, you'll have the ultimate game room that everyone will be sure to love..

First off, you need to decide what type of game room that you want. Do you want one that's filled with different games for people to play, or do you want a simple room with one game that's ideal for socializing and good conversation?

If you want a game room that is filled with different games to play, then what you need to do is see how much space you have first and figure out how many games you can put in there. Once you have that figured out, then you can start buying the games that you want. Some games that would be perfect for this type of space include standing video games like Pac Man or pinball, a dart board, a chess board, foosball, and if you want, you could even put in a large screen TV and hook up a video game console to it like an Xbox or Nintendo. Make sure to put in a place for people to sit as well if you go with the video game console.

If you choose to go with more of a socializing type game space, then you need to select games where everyone can sit around and simply relax. This game needs to be the focal point of the room. Some great ways to go include putting in a pool table or a poker table. It gives you and your friends a place to convene and have a good time. Something that would also be nice in this type of space would be a bar, offering you a lovely spot to serve drinks to your friends.

How Not to Entertain

I love to entertain and I love to cook for others, but one dinner party went horribly wrong.

It happened years ago, but I still remember it as if it were yesterday.

Every thing had to be perfect and I put a lot of time and effort into planning the perfect dinner party.

The guests were carefully selected from a list of influential people that I knew would sing my praises far and wide after such an event and I felt excited about the feed back I would receive.

Invitations were written and posted and to my surprise all who were invited accepted. I took great care with the seating arrangements making sure all the guests would be happy.

The best china and cutlery were used and the table looked beautiful with flowers and candles arranged delicately along its center.

Attention was given to the finest detail even to the dress I wore and I was excited, knowing that this was going to be the finest dinner party EVER!

Finally, the big day arrived and I remember getting up very early that morning as there was a lot to attend to.

The day simply flew, and I remember feeling quite anxious about running out of time.

It was late afternoon when I realised that I had forgotten to choose the back ground music and felt sick in the stomach. How could I do such a stupid thing.

Fumbling through countless CDs searching for the right ones,I decide to have a small glass of wine to settle my nerves and it did wonders.

I showered and slipped into my new gown and with my make up and hair done I ventured back to the kitchen to check on the cooking. All seemed to be going nicely so I sat down with another couple of glasses of wine and appreciated the music I had chosen.

Suddenly I became aware that I was the only one having a party and none of the guests had arrived yet.

Unfortunately, the rest of the evening swirled around in a blur of steaming pots, laughing faces and that terrible smell of somethings burning.

I had lost control of myself and my dinner party and in spite of all my attempts to make it better it all went pair shaped.

Thank goodness for my husband who some how managed to get the evening back on track and save the meal, despite my absence.

I wanted to have a great night, enjoying fine food, conversation and great people, instead I ended up in bed early and totally out of it.

I think a lot of you will relate to this story and will have memories of similar disasters.

My dinner party was simply too much for me. I tried to create something I was not used to doing and in my attempt to be perfect, I found out that I was not.

The shame was unbearable, but I did learn by this experience and since then I have had many successful dinner parties with family and friends.

On reflection, I believe it was my anxiety that made me have too many drinks that afternoon and if I had remained focused on the task at hand, I would never have placed myself into such a predicament.

The moral to this story is never loose control of "your party." If you are the person in charge, no matter what the situation, be it pleasure or business people are relying on you to come through.

The ABC's of Setting a Table

Nothing tells others that you are refined and sophisticated quite like knowing how to set a dinner table. If you know how to properly lay down a dinner set and all the associated items, you are telling others that you are not only knowledgeable, but that you care enough about them to provide not only a fine meal, but fine surroundings. In this article we will be outlining the steps required to set a dinner table for your family and friends.

The Basics

Here are the basics with which you can start. Depending upon the type of dinner party you are planning, you can add to these basics.

a) The first thing you need to determine is how many people you are planning on having over. You will need to have one place setting for each person, so make sure that there are enough chairs around the table to accommodate them.

b) Place the dinner plate in the center of the place setting. Everything else will go around the focal point of this dinner plate.

c) The flatware (i.e.: fork, knife and spoon) will be arranged around the dinner plate in the order in which it will be used. The fork is placed to the left of the plate, while the knife and spoon are placed to the right. The knife is placed right next to the plate with the cutting edge pointed inwards. To the immediate right of the knife is the spoon.

d) Next comes the glass for water. Place this directly above the knife.

e) If you have napkins available, place them under the forks.

Informal Dinner Setting

For an informal dinner party you merely need to start with the basics, and add to them. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:

a) Are you planning on having a salad? If so, you will need a place for the salad fork. It goes to the left of the dinner fork. You already laid the dinner fork down during the basics.

b) If you happen to be serving soup, set the bowl directly on top of the dinner plate, and place the soup spoon to the right of the spoon you laid down during the basics.

c) Salad or bread and butter knifes go down next. They go directly to the left of the forks. If you have butter plates, they go directly above the dinner plate. Put the butter knife directly on top of the butter plate.

d) The cup and saucer come next. Put them directly above the spoons. The handle of the cup should point towards the right. Wine or water glasses go to the left of the coffee cup.

Formal Dinner

The formal dinner setting is the most elaborate setting of all, but there is nothing to worry about...we will explain all the steps to you. You merely need to follow the guidelines for an informal dinner setting, and build upon it. Here is the additional information you need:

a) You will need separate wine glasses if you are serving both white and red wines. Wine glasses should be placed next to the water glass (which is in turn placed to the left of the coffee cup).

b) Additional spoons (i.e.: for soup, beverage, or dessert) should be placed immediately to the right of the knife. Alternately, they can be brought to the table when either the soup or dessert is being served.

c) Centerpieces look very nice and add a bit of class. Look around to see if you can find an appropriate one. If you are artistic, you could always make your own.

Entertaining For the Holidays With Small Kids at Home

Entertaining in your home with young children can be really enjoyable and rewarding. You just have to follow the rules. What are the cardinal rules for kids with guests over? Be kind, and share. Okay, now apply them to yourself. As the hostess, and with little kids, other people may not understand your special needs or difficulties, so it is up to you to be kind to yourself.

First, you need to make sure this is something that you want to do (or at least that you aren't trembling in fear and throwing up anytime someone mentions the blessed event). Just because your house is the central location between far flung relatives or you have the largest dining room, doesn't mean that the health, welfare, and continued family relationship all hinge on the upcoming event and your ability to host it.

It's okay to say no. You can soften the no by suggesting alternative ideas, like renting a small hall or bribing your sister-in-law to eagerly volunteer in your place. Make sure you set boundaries you are comfortable with, like "Dad, I checked with the fire commissioner and my dining room capacity is 25, I guess we won't be able to have the Scottish Highland Bagpipe Band of 150 over this year for appetizers." You can also offer helpful suggestions like, "The kids really do better, especially with little Jimmy, who gets hysterical and starts biting everyone in sight at nine o'clock, when they can go to bed at a normal time.

Maybe we could start a little early and try to end by eight." If the sentence "It's okay to say no" earlier in this paragraph was jumping out at you in a three dimensional, comic book style, that is not an actual effect of this article and you may want to request having the event elsewhere. If you think hosting this holiday event is something you want to do, and you have some twinges of excitement, though a little apprehension, great! Just set manageable expectations for an event you, your family, and the kids will enjoy.

Which brings us to the next very important rule. Share. Like small children, even large adults may need some help with this concept. Just because the event is at your house, doesn't mean you have to do all, or most of the work yourself. You need to enlist others to share in the preparations and tasks at hand, just as they will be sharing the food, laughter, and good times, because you might want a bite too. (Does the story of the Little Red Hen come to mind?) You can ask others to sign up to bring food, or be in charge of it.

Bridal Shower Question and Answer Games

Bridal showers can be a lot of fun, and one of the expected activities is always games where either the bride or the guests answer questions related to the upcoming nuptials. The challenge is to find shower games that haven't been done to death at previous showers your guests have attended. This is a problem that can be easily remedied now we're in the computer age, because you will find dozens of websites that offer you game sheets you can just print off in order to supply your party with distinctive and entertaining games or directions for simple-but-fun games.

You can find sites which offer numerous paper games to challenge your guests, such as the "Famous Couples Matching Game" and the "Bridal Shower Purse Game" in which teams of guests search their purses for various objects in order to score points. The purse game promotes real togetherness and helps guests who may not know a lot of the others who are present break the ice. You might also try Bridal Shower Bingo as well as a rousing game of "Does the Bride Know the Groom?" Games like these are designed to make sure that everyone has a good time.

Another website that offers great game ideas for bridal showers is purpletrail.com. Although it doesn't offer the cute print-outs you'll find on the other site, it does have some fun game suggestions. For example, this site suggests that you list the alphabet on a sheet of paper, add a little wedding clip art, and ask your guests to write marriage-related words for each letter. Another cute idea is "Advice for the Bride and Groom". Type the letters BRIDE & GROOM down the side of a sheet of paper along with lines next to each letter which will serve as the questions. Guests are then requested to come up with marital advice for the happy couple to correspond with each beginning letter. The results of games like these can be hilarious.

Frugal Christmas Entertainment

I don't know about you but when I was younger I always felt a little out of my friends conversations around Christmas time. It seemed to me that my friends parents spent hundreds of pounds more on my friends Christmas entertainment than my parents did on mine, they went to Pantos, to Lapland and other things that must of cost a fortune.

I often felt that my friends were being short changed however, because even though they had the most desirable places to go to I was always given what I wanted or needed I was given my parents time. I will have to ask my Mum, because looking back everything is slightly rose tinted and I know that it wasn't all Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows, but it certainly felt that way!

We did a lot of things over the Christmas period that cost next to nothing and to me is part of a frugal Christmas. So if you are time rich and money poor, I hope some of my ideas and traditions for Frugal Christmas Entertainment may become yours!

When I was little we use to go for Christmas Drives, hunting down the Rotary Club Santa. It was always printed in the paper, which area he would be in on which night, but my Sister and I didn't know that. As far as we knew we really were hunting for Santa. Top Ender has done this over the last few years and she adores looking for him, catching a glimpse and having to try to find him again. It is a good way to spend some time together, as long as you don't mind spending some petrol money or as long as you can all walk fast!

Starting in the first week of December we go on Christmas light hunts. We know of three or four areas, where the decorations outside the homes in the area are fantastic and so we love to drive around them and hunt for new ones!

Then of course there is our annual trip to see the Christmas Lights in London. We are lucky that we now have a Picasso with a giant sun roof, so that we can just look up and see the beautiful displays. This also works for us in our local town, as I think every town puts up some form of Holiday lighting these days!

For the last three years, Top Ender and I have gone to see the lights being turned on the Christmas tree in our local town square. It is really lovely and we enjoy the countdown before the lights are turned on. Our town council has made an effort to make it more enjoyable, with a small funfair and a light parade first.

Something we love to do is to turn the main lights off in our living room once our decorations are up, and either to just have the Christmas lights on or to light a few candles. Top Ender, Daddy and I have snuggled on the sofa just watching the twinkling lights for ages, Baby Boy tended to fall asleep, but then he was only seven months old!

Watching films is something that Top Ender and I do every week, we have a huge range to chose from and often watch one that I have recorded in the week on one of the kids TV Channels. Doing this with popcorn or some Christmas snacks (and with the lights off and just the Christmas lights on!) will just add the Christmas excitement!

Learning Christmas Carols as a family is great. Top Ender got the giggles a few years back when ever we sang "In the Bleak Mid-Winter". It took us ages to find out that she thought the line "Snow had fallen snow on snow" was the funniest thing she had heard! Even now when we sing it she will give us a knowing look at that line!

How to Instantly Get Your Guests Entertained Simply and Easy

One of the most challenging thing to do at any sort of party is to get your guests entertained for the whole night. If you have ever been to a party, the worst thing that can happen when you're at a party is when the people at the party or yourself get bored. It can be a really embarrassing thing to happen, and if you're trying to impress someone, you are not going to have good terms with them in the near future! So here are 3 instant things to get your guests entertained!

1. Always have delicious food and beverages available

The reason why people get bored most of the time is when there is no food available or the food that they do have tastes horrible. If you add the fact there is no beverages, then it is a more dire situation. So to keep them entertained and talking, then having delicious food will make them entertained. If the food is so good, then they will talk about the party weeks later!

2. Have live music

Live music is the best way to entertain guests who don't know each other. Music can get people talking to each other, especially if the live music is really good. Even live music that isn't that great will still get people talking, because they can talk how bad the band is. Live music is better than music coming from the stereo because it is an active activity. Where else, music played from a CD is passive and no one will take notice.

3. Organize games

A simple quiz or Pictionary game is a simple way to get your guests entertained. Even twister is a great game to play because everyone will feel that they are participating. Anything that is active and gets everyone to participate is great, and it'll get your guests entertained for the whole night!

Great Entertainment For Less!

Entertainment is a person's way of relieving stress and putting behind the day's work for a more relaxing and fun moment. Different people want entertainment in different ways. There are those who love watching movies, games, or concerts. There are also those who prefer a quieter and calmer surrounding and thus they love to read books and magazines, answer crossword puzzles, browse the internet for their favorite blog, or simply lazy in the park and have fun with their family. When it comes to entertainment, each to his own.

Nowadays, however, more and more people are finding ways to achieve their usual fun moments but at the same save a bit of extra bucks. This is because times are hard and a lot of them would rather save on the dollar and skimp on fun than get blown away by great excitement yet drain them with their hard-earned dollars. But who said they have to give either of what they want to achieve? Here are some ways people can enjoy great fun and save big at the same time.

* Renting instead of buying. Public libraries are often overlooked but they are great sources of DVDs, books, magazines and even high-speed internet. They rent out DVD's real cheap and people can borrow reading materials and surf the internet for an hour each day, all for free! So instead of buying new books, magazines and DVDs, people should check out their public libraries instead.

* Pep rallies instead of sports bars. Instead of shelling out cash on sports bars for beers and high-fat meals, people can settle for Friday night games at the local high school or college. Tickets are surely cheaper and sometimes they can watch for free. This is also a great way of cheering for the local teams.

* Free Ebooks instead of new books. There are countless of websites who offer free downloads of ebooks and there are some that offer great collections for a very low price. Reading ebooks mean no clutter and thus it saves people time from cleaning and money for purchasing their paperback counterparts.

* Borrowing instead of buying. For those who really love the good ol' feel of papers on their hands when reading, one great way of saving is borrowing from friends or by trading books. This is a great way to renew their book collections and create a wider connection with book enthusiasts. There are local book clubs in almost every city and town and there are websites they can go to for this kind of set up.

Entertaining - Deciding What to Serve Your Guests

One of the most challenging things about entertaining guests is knowing what to serve them. There is a tendency to try and be all things to all people, and make too much of everything. This ends up wasting time, money and food.

The most important decision to make when entertaining is this: what type of evening are you planning? If it is a sit down dinner, the menu will be different than if it is a cocktail party, where guests will likely carry around a small plate of eats while chatting with the other guests.

The cocktail-style party is the easiest to plan, but can be the most challenging to prepare for. The food is typically a selection of appetizers and finger foods. Most of us have one or two signature dishes of this type...those dishes that we have perfected, that we take to all the potlucks, and we are known for them. Don't make them all for the same event. Plan a menu around one of them. If you decide to make your Mexican-style appetizer that everyone just loves, plan a Mexican menu. Or plan your menu theme around a holiday. Whatever theme you use, limit what you serve to how much food you will need-a party can be successful without cooking everything including the kitchen sink.

One rule of thumb is to assume that every guest will have three of any given appetizer. Three cocktail meatballs, three truffles, three buffalo wings. Determine the approximate number of guests, then multiply accordingly to determine how much of each dish to prepare. I always plan for 2-3 extra guests in my computations. Things tend to average out nicely.

Another important rule is to serve a variety of foods. A few guests will likely prefer vegetarian dishes, others will seek dishes without cheese. Still others will head straight to the veggie platter. Planning a party with 12 total attendees, I might make six appetizers; two meat based, two dips (only one with cheese), one veggie/fruit tray, one dessert). It might seem like a small spread, but people will eat what they are served, and by the time the drinks go on the buffet table, and all the plates and napkins, and what the heck, throw in a few bowls of mixed nuts, your table will be rich and full, and no one will leave hungry.

A final bit of advice is this: if you are planning on serving a dish (or dishes) that you have never prepared before, do a trial run before the party. Most of us tend to fine tune recipes to suit our tastes, and reading a recipe in a magazine or online is a far cry from actually knowing how it tastes, or how well it stands up to the other dishes you will be serving. Take the time to fix it once for your family, and make adjustments to personalize it for your party. No one wants to be your test kitchen, and you don't want to serve something you feel you need to apologize for.

How to Treat Your Dinner Guests Well

When hosting a dinner party, the happiness of your guests is pretty much the epitome of importance. In order to make sure an enjoyable evening is had by all then follow the steps below.

Greet people at the door and welcome them into your home. Take their coat and store it in a safe place. If they have brought a gift then graciously accept it. Lead them into whichever room is appropriate for them to wait in (usually the living room) and make sure you make introductions between them and any other guests there, especially if they do not know each other. Throw in a remark about the guest if you wish 'Jenny is a lawyer who I met at the golf club' or suchlike, which will give the other guests an insight into topics they could discuss. Make sure everyone is offered a drink when they are sat down, and have a wide range available so you can give them what they like. Making up your own cocktails can be a fun way of giving them drinks, and display a bit of prowess.

To be a good host you want to make sure you are present as much as possible, so minimise the cooking time of all dishes by preparing anything it is possible to in advance. If there are two of you hosting then one could stay with the guests at all times to make sure everything goes well.

When it comes to sitting at the dinner table, seat people with similar interests near each other so they will be able to sustain conversation. Nothing is worse than silence around the dinner table, so research people in advance and plan an appropriate table layout which will make sure everyone is comfortable. Have some conversation topics prepared as well in case there are any lulls.

Make sure you keep an eye out for empty drinks glasses and offer more, so that people do not get thirsty, and do the same with food if you have made more than necessary. The most important thing to do to make sure guests are treated well is knows their needs. An allergies, dislikes or specific tastes (vegetarianism for example) should be catered for. If cooking a food such as steak, it is courtesy to ask each guest how well done they would like it, and trying to match their needs, rather than make an overall assumption. Small measures like this are the mark of a considerate host.

Once the meal is over then make the atmosphere less formal and maybe add some music to help people relax. This will also allow further conversations if you want to discuss the new CD you are playing, for example. Offer coffee and extras and, if you have any good party games then bring them out.

When it is time to go then make sure your guests are well cared for by returning coats, thanking them for coming and wishing them a safe journey. Make sure everyone is safe to drive and have taxi numbers on hand in case anyone needs them, so you do not need to fetch out a phone book.

Ideas For a Perfect Hen's Night

A Hen Party is organized by the maid of honor or the bridesmaid just before the wedding for the bride to celebrate the last days of spinsterhood and to enjoy the start of a new life. It is the female equivalent of the male stag party and is so called because of the reference to girls as chicks. The party should be planned well in advance, and it could either be for a night or could continue over a weekend. It is strictly a party organized by the girls and for the girls with no men allowed.

Venue: The timing and venue of the party should be decided well in advance. Last minute changes can be very irritating and may spoil the mood of the party. The venue of the party can be anywhere from the local club, the posh disc in town, a private farmhouse or a rented apartment. If you are hosting the party at a private place, then you will have the advantage of doing the house according to your own desired themes.

Themes: There are no hard and fast rules for any particular theme at a hen party. The decorations can be as desired by the bride but it does not mean that just because it is a girl's night out there should be loads of frills and laces. On the contrary, a hen party too can have funky music and alcohol flowing freely. After all, why shouldn't the girls have fun too? A fancy dress party can also be arranged with funny costumes.

Activities: Interesting games like truth and dare are one of the popular games of stag and hen parties. Of course, for girls, hen parties could also be pampering themselves before the big day in a spa or salon, indulging themselves in exotic treatments and massages. A cocktail party in the afternoon and an entire day spent shopping for the wedding is just about the perfect idea for a hen party for many a girl.

Make the Most of Outdoor Dining

There's something truly wonderful about being able to eat in the great outdoors. Some might even suggest that the experience has a liberating impact. How do you begin to explain what makes it so special?

It might be suggested that it's all about being out in the fresh air, getting closer to nature. Maybe we enjoy the fact that we feel physically closer to where our food comes from. On warm days, there is added delight to be taken in feeling the warmth of the sun beating down.

For those of us who live in cooler climates, there's also a novelty factor here. The reality is that we may not be able to enjoy outdoor dining for most of the year. It's simply too cold, or too wet. When the rain stops, the sun comes out from behind the clouds and temperature rises, it makes sense that we should wish to take the opportunity.

There may be even greater pleasure for us than there is for those who live in warmer countries. We're much less likely to take things like this for granted. They are special precisely because they don't happen every single day of the year.

So how can you really make the most of these occasions? Having suitable garden furniture is a great starting point. You'll want to be able to sit nice and comfortably. A good quality table is a necessity, ensuring that you'll be able to do so and that you can enjoy a comfortable meal.

There are many options that you might consider. A picnic table could be a good solution if you want something that looks great placed on a patio or a lawn. These tables tend to be strong, which is important. You don't furniture that isn't up to the job.

You'll need to maintain your garden furniture properly too. Don't forget to make use of a suitable table cover during the winter months. A table is the building block upon which you can build all of your outdoor dining hopes.

Some people like to cook outdoors too and this can certainly add to the experience. There are numerous options available for you, but a fire pit could add an element of originality.

Entertaining Friends in Your Garden

It's always nice to spend time with friends. We may enjoy spending time together having a conversation, eating or meal or maybe sharing a nice bottle of wine. But spending time in the garden can be particularly good fun.

Those of us who live in relatively small houses may feel a little cramped for space indoors. We may think that it would be nice to have more seating options, allowing everyone to really spread out and relax. On warmer days, we may look outside and think that it would be more pleasant to be there. If you do have a garden then it makes sense to try and use it.

It's always a shame to see a garden that simply hasn't been looked after. There's nothing worse than having the space filled with weeds and objects that really aren't needed. It's important that a garden should not become a dumping ground.

A garden should provide a beautiful space that can be enjoyed by all. At the beginning of each summer, you may find it useful to take an objective look at your own outside space. Ask yourself whether you think that it would look appealing to others. Try and identify areas of concern.

By taking this objective approach, you'll put yourself in a better position to start getting things in order. One area where many people could do better is creating the right environment. It's easy to focus too much on plants, the state of the lawn and other such issues.

Although these issues may seem important, you also need to remember that creating a more appealing garden will be all about transforming into a space where you can spend time with others. It should be a place where you can sit with friends and enjoy a meal. Think about it as a lovely extension of your own home.

In particular, you should take a look at the seating options that you have available. This might simply mean moving a few chairs from your dining room into the garden when the need arises. Alternatively, you may wish to purchase a more permanent outdoor table and chairs. These will allow for easier outdoor dining opportunities.

Last Minute Parties - How to Throw the Best Parties in No Time!

A last minute, spur-of-the-moment get together is often times, one of the best parties. Don't let well laid plans and organizational tips intimidate you or keep you from doing something totally spontaneous.

Believe it or not, ninety-nine out of one hundred of these type parties are successful. Because expectations are not high, you and your guest will be pleasantly surprised at how much enjoyment comes with the experience.

There are advantages to throwing a last minute party. Spontaneous parties are often more enjoyable because you don't have big party plans or long list to deal with. You don't have to sweat the small stuff, just flow with the roll and punches. Many of these types of parties create great friendships.

Organizing in a small amount of time means you may have to do two or three things at once. For instance, hide the clutter under your furniture or in a closet. Vacuum the middle of the floor rather than the whole area. Order take-out food or raid your pantry or freezer, even if you have invited someone over for drinks, they will probably expect olives or some morsel of food.

Dinner Parties - Who You Should Be Inviting!

One element of planning a dinner party stands out from all the rest. Planning your guest list is the most vital to the life of your party. Creating your list of who to invite is your top priority, because it's the people who are the life of the party.

Spice up your party with a terrific guest list and people will look forward to coming to your house. Most people invite people because they owe them a pay-back or invite the same people all the time. While there is nothing wrong with paying people back, including a mix of different people will help achieve a good balance of personalities.

Gathering the right people for your party will result in your guest feeding off each other's personalities, charm and energy and not just your food. Creating your guest list doesn't have to be complicated, invite people of different professions, nationalities, and personalities to add diversity.

Every person you invite doesn't have to be someone you know well. Anyone that you know from casual conversations or perhaps that you do business with is a possible guest. When you invite people you see everyday, you get to see them out of their usual context.

Backyard Movies - 5 Great Ways to Enjoy Your Backyard Movie Theater

Although many people are finding out that hosting a backyard movie is a lot of fun for everyone, what most people are just figuring out is that there are many more ways to enjoy your backyard theater than to just throw a movie in the DVD player. Here are some fun things that people are doing:

Karaoke Night - You've had a good time seeing yourself on the tv in your family room or at the local bar but how about on a big screen in your backyard? If you like karaoke or just want to give it a try this is the way to do it. Just hook up the karaoke machine, plug a camcorder into the projector and start singing. You will be amazed at how much fun it is to see yourself on the big screen.

Theme Movie Night - Sometimes the newest releases don't hold a candle to with the time tested classics. Watch the classics with a twist and make it a theme night. Have a cookout and put your best western outfit, throw in a western classic on and have a western theme night. Can't get enough of the Kung Fu movies? Order Chinese food and throw in a Bruce Lee Movie. Remember to make everyone come wearing their favorite kung fu outfit or karate outfit. Caddyshack is a an all time classic and you can show it after a golf outing with the guys. Of course you should show up in the ugliest golf clothes you can pull out of your closet. The best part of the night is that the movies don't need to be first runs and it is all about the food and friends and the outfits.

Birthday Parties - Inflatables and game rooms are great but how fun would it be to have a backyard movie for your kids birthday. Not only would it be a fun and different activity but if you get the right movie they will be occupied for several hours and you can get some time to relax too.

Block Party - Is there a better way to get your neighbors together than having a block party and show a backyard movie. You don't even need to use your backyard if you live on a dead end street or if there is a park close by. Have everyone pitch in with the food and drink and all you will have to do is bring the screen and projector. As a warning you might have to schedule several movie nights to accommodate all the suggestion that you will get from each neighbor.

Get the Nintendo DSi XL For Free

A Nintendo DSi XL for free?

The idea seems too farfetched for anybody thinking that it is simply not possible to get anything without paying.

Its either you buy one of these very portable game consoles or have somebody give it to you, right?

Wrong. You can get your own Nintendo DSi XL for free, absolutely for real. You might still be apprehensive, thinking that such offers are made by fraudulent people. Here, you must be cautioned, because it is true that there are offers out there that aim only in scamming unsuspecting people.

A genuine offer is made by companies that make money by giving stuff away. They do not earn by taking money from you. This is what you must always remember.

A freebie site is supported by sponsors or advertisers. These sponsors are other businesses showing off their products on the site. Before you qualify for a freebie, you must sign up for some trial offers first. Don't worry, these advertiser offers will not cost you anything. They are no-obligations trials you can subscribe for a week or so, no payments are involved and you can cancel them if you are not interested. Also, these advertisers are mostly well known companies and more often than not, they have products or services that do not only appeal to consumers, they are actually great products that one can use and benefit from. So there is really no harm in trying out such offers.

If you want to try your luck in getting a Nintendo DSi XL for free, go ahead. Look for a genuine site and register to it. Follow the program incentives: complete some sponsor offers and refer some friends. After completing the requirements, then you shall be getting your reward in the mail.

Throw a Dracula Dinner Bash for a Frightening Halloween Party

All set to sink your fangs into a Halloween sit-down feast?

Step #1: Plan your celebration for the actual day of Halloween -- Sunday, October 31st.

If that date doesn't work for you, think about dining on the every bit as scary eve of the full moon on Saturday, October 23rd.

Step #2: Setting The Table

Orange, Black & white, and blood red are the traditional colors of the damned, which means that you should set your stage in accordance with that. Begin with blood-red, orange or black placemats or a table runner, all with coordinating napkins and napkin rings. Color- coordinated dinnerware will have monsters' mouths watering, and blood-red crackle-glass stemware delivers a gothic, medieval feel to your table. Designed for your centerpiece, load a tall container with willow branches that you have glittered, encircled with votive candles and fun Halloween confetti. For placeholders, use red apples with your guests' nametags skewered to the stems.

Step #3: Choosing The Meal

Oh, wait a minute -- vampires of the underworld never consume food! Which will mean you are going to have to get imaginative with a few blood-inspired dishes. Begin with a soup of cool homemade borscht (and never mind the gagging, it's actually quite tasty) capped with a spoonful of sour cream. Either good rare lamb chops or perhaps steaks (not to be confused with stakes) are usually always welcome. For a side dish, some spaghetti topped by a hot and spicy red sauce always goes great. Oh, and don't neglect a salad to keep the annoying vegan vampires happy. As a dessert, consider Red Velvet cupcakes with a yummy cream cheese frosting.

Step #4: Pouring The Drinks

Ah, it really gets fun now! You can make bloody-looking goblets simply by dipping the rims directly into corn syrup mixed with red food dye and then turning them upright to let the goo drip on down the sides of the glasses. After this has had a chance to set, fill the glasses with cranberry juice and ice cubes made with red food coloring (and you can even freeze plastic bugs or spiders inside them, if you dare). Or perhaps forget about ice altogether and just go with a good Pinot Noir, Merlot, or Cabernet. Everybody knows the undead really love their spirits.

Step #5: Designing The Décor

Consider decorations that are luxurious and captivating, like vibrant red, gold or purple (or even black) window curtain panels. Gleaming glass flower vases packed with apples or shiny glass beads of coordinating colors. Make bloody candles by simply dripping melted red candle wax onto white candles. Group plastic or silk plants and trees all around the party room for a woodsy feel, and then spice them up with tiny white twinkle lights to help take advantage of the magic. Finally, put on a creepy music soundtrack and take a seat at the dinner table.

Nightdrinks on Elm Street - A Halloween Cocktail Party

If you'd like to do some informal Halloween entertaining, a Halloween cocktail get together is a great solution. And here are the precise steps you can take to make it frightfully fun!

Step #1: Your Attitude

Forego all feelings associated with socially acceptable conduct.

Step #2: Cocktails

This is not the occasion to offer modest small portions of white wine - unless of course you've slipped a plastic worm or spider in the glass first. There are a few fun and yummy Halloween vintages out there. To name a few:

* Zelda the Zin Witch Zinfandel

* Vampire Vineyards Syrah and Zinfandel

* Vampire Wines Pinot Grigio, Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Merlot

* and perhaps the most unique -- Poizin from Armida Winery, a Zinfandel with a label etched with a blood red skull and crossbones and a bottle top dipped in a haunting blood-red candle wax, presented in a wood coffin-shaped box.

In the cocktail drink department, maintain the creepiness aspect with a green witch's brew served in martini glasses - and don't skimp on the fake eyeballs and skeleton swizzle stirs. Melon liqueur and vodka or Appletinis work well for this. Or there's also a Vampyre Red Vodka produced for just such an occasion as this. For designated drivers as well as other guests who would prefer nonalcoholic refreshment, virgin Bloody Marys and perhaps blood- red fruit punch offered in a bowl packed in dry ice make excellent alternatives. Just don't allow dry ice to have contact with any skin, and make certain none of it gets into anybody's drink. You may also want to put some dry ice in metal tubs of water in the driveway or entryway to produce a foggy, underworld welcome for your visitors as they arrive. Get lots of tips for using dry ice online by typing in "dry ice Halloween party ideas" into your favorite search engine.

Step #3: Food

It's not necessary to go over the top on the Halloween party theme with regards to snacks, but make sure you keep it fun. Some ideas are:

* Mummy Dogs: Crescent rolls wrapped around hot dogs and baked in the oven

* Bones & Blood: Bread dough cut in strips and formed into a bone shape and baked, served with a marinara sauce dip

* Cheesy Fingers: String cheese, cut in half with an almond sliver embedded in one end to simulate fingernails

* Dirt & Worms: Chocolate pudding with gummy worms hidden inside and crumbled Oreos on top

* Nutty Ghosts: Nutter Butter cookies dipped in white chocolate with mini chocolate chips for eyes

There's tons of ideas for party food on the Internet. Just search for something like "Halloween party food'

Step #4: Décor

Cocktail parties are usually for mingling, so don't believe you need to provide a 1:1 guest-to- seat ratio. Bar or bistro tables with tall chairs or barstools work nicely along with a couch and a few scattered chairs. With all the lights turned down low, candles are must-haves - including candlesticks and sconces with battery-operated flickering flames which lend to the haunted-house atmosphere. Spread fancy face masks, skulls along with other Halloween staples like spiders, skulls and ghosts on walls and tables through the entire party area.

Take Control of Your Television

Taking control of your television viewing is the topic of my blog today. Lately as you well know there is nothing but garbage on television. With over 200 channels offered by most television subscription services it would seem impossible that you would have to channel surf so much. Try to watch a program with the family and that's almost an impossible task anymore. Let's take a flashback to the past, when you could sit down and watch television and not get insulted, offended or even embarrassed. Now, I am not an older person nor am I a fanatic, I just want to sit down and watch a television program in peace.

It got to the point that we went cold turkey and dropped all television from our home. I will tell you that we suffered withdrawals, that's right, withdrawals from not having television on in our home. You would not believe how much gets done around the house and how much studying goes on when the tube is off. I would highly recommend shutting the TV off for a season. Your family will benefit greatly. But I realize that might not be possible in most homes.

I know all this sounds very discouraging but there is hope. Christian satellite television programming is available through free to air satellite. There are many excellent channels available on the satellite channels. But the best part is that you do not pay a monthly subscription fees and there are no contracts. All you do is purchase your equipment for a little over $200. It is a great deal plus you get hundreds of channels ready to be programmed on your satellite receiver.

I did not mention that the installation is not that hard for you do-it-yourself people out there. There is even a YouTube video available to help you with step by step instructions. The key words for the YouTube instructions video are idea linstallation. If you follow the installation instructions, the video could save you the installation fee. It is a great weekend project for the family.
