Fun Spring Outdoor Activities For Toddlers

Start the month out right with a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Lots of places celebrate the Hispanic holiday with fun festivities for kids and families. Parks will often start having outdoor celebrations for this occasion and it will give you the chance to enjoy some different activities like pinatas and authentic Mexican food!

There are also park events for kids like races, games, and more. Check with the parks in your area to see what they have to offer from movies under the stars to nature walks on the weekends.

For many children, especially those in the upper grades, this is a time of exams and rushing to get caught up on all their work. Since May is National Hamburger Month and also National Barbecue Month, you can have a real celebration for the month and have a cookout for your children and all of their friends. This will give them some wind-down time to spend together without the stress of their studies to worry about. It's also a great way to celebrate the newly warmer weather.

May is a great time to go on a real, old-fashioned camping trip. All of the things that make it uncomfortable in the summer will be milder during this month. No matter where you live, there should be campgrounds available that are close enough to make a weekend trip feasible.

A great activity during May, especially for the little ones, is a trip to the zoo. Animals are coming out of hibernation and this is the best time to get a chance to see lots of species that you may have missed in the summer or fall. Take your camera and supply the children with one of their own to make a memorable trip that they will all enjoy. High temperatures may keep the animals indoors or under shelter if you visit later in the summer.

Buy a bike and go on a biking trip with your children. Instead of limiting yourself to low key activities like playing board games or taking in a movie, get active with your kids. You will have a great chance to spend quality time with your kids and get a great workout at the same time! If you feel confident enough with your bike riding skills, you may even want to take part in a marathon!

Depending on your child and the activities that he/she normally enjoys, it is easy to find things that will be entertaining that the May weather will enhance. Just playing in the backyard with the little ones will be a treat after spending the winter indoors. If your child needs a little more structure, then find out what kinds of plants you can plant in your area in May and work on a garden together. Then you will have the fun of watching them bloom in the summer!
