How TV Can Help Your Child Learn

It is suggested that children under the age of two should not watch any TV at all. Once children are around four years old, they can watch TV when supervised. Put on shows that are made for young children. Nick Jr. offers many cute, educational, and fun shows for younger children. These shows include Dore the Explorer, The Wonder Pets, Blue's Clues and many more. There are also other channels available so check what your cable or satellite provider offers. Plus, Barney and Sesame Street have been around for years and children still enjoy them. The shows your children watch should cover topics like the alphabet, colors, shapes, numbers, expressing their feelings, sharing with friends, etc. Some of these shows even help teach children other languages including Spanish and Chinese. If you expose your child to too much TV too soon, it can have negative effects such as increased chances of developing ADHD and obesity. They can also damage their hearing and sight if they watch TV at a high volume or too closely. Some people also believe children have behavioral and vocabulary issues from watching too much TV starting at a young age. The key to letting your children watch TV is too wait until they are at least three or four and even then limit how long they watch TV and watch it with them. As a parent or guardian you need to be there to explain things that they might not understand. Also, you can monitor what the shows are teaching and if it goes along with what you are teaching your child. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Vince_Armstrong
