Creating an Inviting Home

There are a few elements that are standard for creating an inviting, relaxing atmosphere in your home. A soothing or bright color scheme will draw you and your guests in and either relax or stimulate. Different color palettes create different energy. For a soothing feel, lean towards blue, soft greens, and clean whites. If you want a cozy feel, taupe, browns, creams, with a strong accent color such as red or burgundy will do the trick.

Ambient background music can be peaceful nature sounds, or elegant classical depending on what effect you'd like to achieve. Keep a play list for different occasions on your computer, or use an online radio station customized to your preferences.

For inviting lighting solutions it is always recommended to avoid overhead lighting. This lighting is usually harsh and adds an unattractive glare. Consider using floor and table lamps, sconces, and candles. Lamps can be purchased at designer boutiques or your local all purpose store, and dressed up with a new lampshade.

Do you love the smell and beautiful light a candle provides, but hate the danger of flames, and hassle of melted wax? Consider using wickless candles to decorate your home and provide both a luscious scent as well as nice light. Wickless candles are available in a great variety of sizes and scents, so you're sure to be able to match them to your decor and tastes.

Nurturing an inviting atmosphere in your home is as easy as comfortable seating, some soft, flattering lighting, a few key scents, peaceful music. Pile up a few comfortable pillows on your couch, group a couple of candles together, turn on your music player and just like that, your home is an inviting oasis.
