Me? Wear a Black Playboy Bunny Costume? Sure - Why Not?

Be sexy, flirty, playful and popular! That's right. The Playboy bunny has become well known due to the Playboy brand and has become an important part of the American pop culture.

It was in February, 1960, when the first Playboy Club opened it's doors in Chicago, Illinois. Can you imagine the buzz around this grand opening? This club catered to ritzy, elite gentlemen who desired a venue for fine dining while admiring the cocktail waitresses all dressed up in their black bunny suits. I bet the tips were great!

The original costume revealed just enough of the bunny's skin to be sexy but did not reveal any "forbidden" body parts. The suit was eventually given a "D" bra cup size and if the bunnies didn't quite fit it, they would have to improvise with whatever stuffing material was available...socks, tissue, cut up bunny tails, etc. In 1962, a bow tie collar and cuffs were added to complete the bunny look. Over the years the leg openings have been altered to achieve that "just right look" for the friendly girl wearing the ears.

A rosette name tag identified the Bunnies at the seated patron's eye level as the bunnies wore it on their right hip. I don't know about you, but at first I may have felt a little uneasy if someone was constantly staring at my right hip.

The bunny costumes were made in twelve colors but the most coveted was the black playboy bunny suit. The bunnies with the most seniority eventually were granted the right to wear the black suit.
