There are advantages to throwing a last minute party. Spontaneous parties are often more enjoyable because you don't have big party plans or long list to deal with. You don't have to sweat the small stuff, just flow with the roll and punches. Many of these types of parties create great friendships.

Organizing in a small amount of time means you may have to do two or three things at once. For instance, hide the clutter under your furniture or in a closet. Vacuum the middle of the floor rather than the whole area. Order take-out food or raid your pantry or freezer, even if you have invited someone over for drinks, they will probably expect olives or some morsel of food.

If you happen to be one of those highly structured or perfectionist types by nature, some of the advantages of last minute entertaining may sound like disadvantages to you. Just be yourself, let your guest see the real you and enjoy the adventure.
