Two Things to Do With Your Child During the Summer

Summer holidays are upon us and our children will be looking at us to be helpful in helping them to enjoying this wonderful time in the year. There is always the excitement of traveling to another country and if you cannot drive around your own country in one day, there is the option of traveling to another part of it.

Two things that you can do with them during this time are:

Plant A Garden

You do not have to live on a farm in order to plant a vegetable or a flower garden. You can be renting an apartment, a basement or a room in someone's home. It can be done.

After deciding what type of garden it will be, you can bear these things in mind.

1. Talk with a farmer etc., for more concrete tips as to how to go about doing this and as you do, find out what seeds or seedlings will take years to bear fruits and which ones will do so within a month. This will help to keep you and your child from being disappointed if nothing is happening in the pot.
2. You can use plastic ice cream containers and, or anything else along this line, for the planting.
3. It does not have to be a large garden, it can be as little as three pots.
4. Make a big deal out of it when you are cooking the food that you reap and, or, the flowers that you pick.

You can make it into a yearly tradition.

Picnic

You can take your child on a picnic. This may seem so ordinary, but if you have done it before, you will know how rewarding this can be. You do not have to go every day, but watch out, after taking this one, he/she will want you to take him/her every day.

1. Make the location a surprise.
2. Ask him/her what foods you should take and put a surprise food in the bag. Do not forget to pack the blanket.
3. You can make the location a surprise or you can tell him/her where it will be.
4. This is easier said than done, but relax and enjoy whatever you will be doing. If you are at a park, play on the equipment that will carry your weight. If you are on the beach, build a sandcastle and allow him/her to cover part of your body in sand.
