Plan a Fun Outdoor Party With Lawn Games - Some Suggestions
If you want to plan a fun outdoor party, make certain that you include some lawn games. Here are some suggestions.
- Volleyball. This is always a group favorite. A volleyball net can be easily up in your backyard and you can set up a court by marking foul lines and service boxes with spray paint designed to be outdoors.
The game can then be played in teams of 4 to 6 players. It can be more or less structured depending on the type of game you establish.
- Horseshoes. This game is relatively simple to set up. You take poles and hammer them into the ground. Each pole is designed to be placed a certain distance apart from each other. There are two poles and two teams.
Each team stands on opposite ends from each other. Their goal is to throw the horseshoe so that it lands as close as possible to the pole. This game has remained a very popular outdoor sport and should remain so for many years to come.
- Badminton. This game was originated in the mid 18th century in British India. It was started by English military officers who were stationed there.
The game has evolved over the years to finally achieve recognition as an Olympic sport in 1992. It is played by two opposing players (as in singles) or two teams of two players each (for doubles).
The players score points when they strike a shuttlecock with their badminton racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents court without being returned.
It is a great outdoor game and is fairly easy to set up.
- Frisbee. For a very simple and fun outdoor game, you've got to have a Frisbee. This toy was invented in 1938 and further refined. By 1948 the discs were optimized and were produced in plastic.
The growth of this toy and associated games have continued to grow significantly in popularity. It is played the world over but you can include it to your outdoor party.
- Water balloon toss. You would pair off players into two groups and have them face each other about 3 feet apart. They would begin tossing water filled balloons to each other. Every time the balloon is caught, that person steps back. As the pairs become further apart, someone is bound to drop the balloon or it will break. That team is eliminated and the remaining groups face off until there is but one winner.
