How to Throw An Awesome New Years Eve Party

New Years Eve is one of those nights that is either fantastic or a complete dud. There is really no other night that purely by definition has so much anticipation attached to it. There is an expectation that New Years Eve is the night to party. So if you are the host, what can you do to ensure you and everyone you invite has a great time?

First and foremost is the planning. If you do this correctly and pay attention to the details (this is where most people fail) you are 90% there. Do you want a theme? Personally I like themes' as it get's people into the mood before the night has even begun. If you have time to send invitations via snail mail even better as there is something special about getting a letter in the post.

Once you have decided on a theme be creative with it. If, for example, you are throwing a decade style party like the 70's or 80's decorate the venue with movie or band posters from the era. You could even get some life size cardboard cut outs of your favourite hero's these always cause a laugh. Careful of the people who have had too much to drink and want to take one home at the end of the night!

Source out food that was popular then, people love going down memory lane especially if there was a food they loved from that time that they haven't tasted for a while. Drop into your local op shop and see if you can find dishes and serving plates that can help carry the effect through.

Same with drinks, every theme has their favourites and it is not hard to search the internet for party themed drink ideas. Remember alcohol can get expensive, so make sure you know how many people are coming and estimate per head what you think they will drink. If it is BYO, tell people what sort of drink to bring to keep the theme alive.

And the music! This can make or break your night. If you are throwing an era party ask people what their favourite songs were from that time, this will ensure there is always someone saying 'I Loved This Song' and jumping around. Make sure you have enough songs to go for the length of the party and if you can hire a DJ so much the better.

All in all the success of a party is in the planning. It will also preserve your stress levels and will just make you feel like you have everything under control, leaving you to enjoy your night also.
