Making the Most of Garden Play

Getting outdoors and enjoy the fresh air is something that many of us enjoying doing. Making the most of our garden in the summer months is particularly nice - we can relax and have some fun. The garden also provides a wonderful environment for our children to play in.

This article examines how you can help your children to get the most from playing in your garden. It concentrates on why it's so important that kids take part in active play and the means by which you can encourage them to do so.

So let's start with why it's so important that children should play in an active manner. A number of recent studies have shown a worrying upward trend in the figures for childhood obesity. It seems that we're in great danger of bringing up a generation of unfit, overweight children.

This is a disturbing thought and all the more so when you realise that kids who get into this state at a young age are more likely to have significant health issues. It's a problem that could have an effect right through into their adult lives.

One key aspect that's leading to such issues is that children aren't getting enough exercise. That's partly because many kids are opting to stay indoors and play video games, or watch television.

In this context, it's clear that outdoor play can be useful. Outdoor play is almost always more active play. So why aren't more parents encouraging their sons and daughters to play outdoors? One reason may be fear for their safety.

A garden can provide an ideal solution - it allows you to provide a safe, enclosed environment. That means that your children can get some exercise and you can still keep an eye on them.

If you want to encourage them to play in the garden then it's important that you help them to make the most of it. That means spending some time showing them how much fun can be had, while also making the garden an exciting location in which they can play.

Helping them to enjoy the garden is good fun and is great news for their health.
